On March 8, 1946 the Bell 47B became the first commercially certified helicopter in the United States. This small two-place, single engine helicopter featured Bell's patented two-blade rotor and stabilizer bar which made it very stable in flight. The Bell 47B was originally used for mail service, passenger hopping, training and survey work.
